Ronaldo is an internationally respected Brazilian lawyer, with outstanding performance in the areas of technology, data protection, intellectual property, media, and public policy. He is a professor at UERJ Law School and Columbia University (School for International Public Affairs – SIPA). He was a visiting scholar at Princeton University’s Center for Information Technology Policy (2011), at Oxford University (2005) and a researcher at MIT Media Lab (2013). He is the author of several books, articles and studies published in Brazil and abroad on law and technology, among them “Law, Technology and Culture” (2005, Editora FGV); Electronic Commerce (2002, Ed. Revista dos Tribunais); Conflicts over Domain Names and Other Legal Issues of the Internet (2004, Ed. Revista dos Tribunais); Life on the Net (Ed. Papirus, 2015); Media Piracy in Emerging, 2012. American Assembly); “Building a National IoT Plan: Policy Recommendations and the Case of Brazil” (2019, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) of Columbia University). He was one of the main idealist of Law No. 12,965/2014 (Marco Civil da Internet), published in 2014. He was one of the co-authors of the National Plan for the Internet of Things, in partnership with McKinsey & Co. He was a member of the Council for Social Communication in the National Congress, and a member of the National Council to Combat Piracy, based at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as a board member of several organizations, such as the Mozilla Foundation, and one of the founders of the Institute for Technology and Society in Rio (ITS Rio). He was elected in 2015 by the World Economic Forum as one of the “Young Global Leaders” and is currently one of the members of Facebook’s Oversight Board.
